Inventing your own Birth
The other day I heard an item on the radio. Thousands of people without birth dates in Israel, (due to coming from other countries with no family history after The Holocaust) and currently having a string of 0's in bank, insurance & government databases, will be given the chance to 'choose' their own birthday.
According to the news reader, these people 'will be the first people in history to choose their own Star Sign'!
I nearly dropped my cup of tea!
Is it possible the newsreader rather thought this ironic evidence pointed against something of his own prejudice.
These people have a time of birth, they just dont know it.
I am sure it will be wonderfull for them to choose an ideal birthday and join the rest of us lucky people, but just because they choose a birthday & star sign doesnt make it so, many would argue that higher powers chose this in the first place.
It would do humans well to remember that we fit within the Cosmos, the Cosmos does not fit around us!
What is the Scientific basis to Astrology - ?
Every few weeks we get this question from a journalist or enquiring mind, all the time we get variations on that question, I am sure every other Astrologer of note also gets the same.
Is their a scientific basis to astrology?
The answer is no & yes!
There are a few 'modern' scientists prepared to have an open mind to research as a scientist should and some even have interesting results, but by far most scientists scoff at the thought of a subject that existed before them and will continue to outlast every one of them. Not to mention their peers would have a good laugh at their expense and deprive them of future funding for their area of interest.
No scientific basis of note then.
Then on the other hand for several thousand years, hundreds of thousands of skilled observers, not to mention millions with rather less skills have observed that when the moon is full, a given person tends to behave in a certain way and in a more complex bit of planetary geometry, when mars is aligned with saturn just so, then the kings war didn't go so well. the King and many leaders are keen to find a winning edge, no matter how cookie it sounds to us modern peoples, it just has to work more often than not to be useful.
Observing past patterns and using that to make some sort of deduction about what happens next time has become a rather useful tool for 'predicting the weather' and 'forecasting financial gains in the cyclical, stock, capital, bond and commodities markets.
Unfortunately rather a lot of people get confused with psychic happenings, spooky stuff, tarot cards and astrology and think that astrology in particular (i cant comment on the others) is about predicting that you will do such and such next week and the outcome will be x and you have no free will in those decisions!
This is rubbish, astrology doesn't predict! Astrology is a tool to evaluate what makes individual people tick and what patterns can show from observed correlations with planetary positions in their birth charts and the relationship with today's or tomorrows chart, their past, present and future, all of this has been and continues to be observed and measured against what is known, their is no proof other than it keeps happening and it keeps happening regardless of science.
In many ways Astrologers don't really care what science has to say on their subject, because the clients know it is of value to their own personal lives and the astrologers can see for themselves that they are on to something of use and application in real lives or events.
There is a saying made originally by J. P. Morgan, someone asked him if it was true millionaires consulted Astrologers, his reply was No, Billionaires consult Astrologers.
J. P. Morgan was in the habit of consulting Astrologer Evangeline Adams, every morning on the way to Wall Street, (please understand that a personal consultation is of much greater personal relevance than glancing through 'Your Stars' at breakfast, but that's another subject).
The point is, Mr Morgan didn't need a scientist to tell him which advice had scientific proof and how it works according to this centuries theory, he just used what he personally found to work!
The greatest, longest running empirical observation ever involving the most observers that there has ever been in the entire human history was the almost 700 year observation and observed correlation of the the planets, stars & celestial events with prevailing river levels, political events, military campaigns, the comings and goings of kings, commodity and currency rates.
During this time the Zodiac was invented and the purpose of Astrology was to aid rulers, military leaders and in fact anyone in society to find the most favourable circumstance (based upon the database of empirical observations), to undertake something of interest, by understanding what could happen and the altering it so they could Create their Future!
This long observation took place between 652BC and 47BC through the Assyrian, Babylonian and Persian empires, was itself based on Mesopotamian observation going back to at least 2300 BC and was the basis of Greek Astrology going forward to become Western Astrology and Astronomy and was ultimately only suppressed by Religion so that IT could lay claim to the only access to the heavens.
Prior to that period there is evidence in Stone and Anthropology of observation, worship and use of sky knowledge that goes back to 700,000 years and can be found on all continents and appears to be part and parcel of what it means to be human..
Modern Science is based upon observation & repeatable test of the theory. Astrologers continue to repeatedly test the observation and theory with every client and study.
Astrologers don't take too much note of modern science or religion because we have a depth of knowledge passed on to us that vastly predates other human endeavours.
